I just hit a major milestone in 2011: I bought an apartment with my husband who's a New Zealander (or more affectionately known as a 'Kiwi'). We talked about buying 'art' or 'prints' for the new home but we never actively seek 'art'. Of course, all things come naturally. We stumbled upon Weston Frizzell's prints at a quaint design gallery, KAPA in Queenstown, New Zealand. I was immediately hooked by the pop culture icons, Warhol influences and Kiwi nuances reflected in their limited edition prints.

One of the more popular prints: 'Behave' by Weston Frizzell.

Just a brief background: Weston Frizzell is an art collaboration between celebrity artist Otis Frizzell and art dealer/producer/manager Mike Weston. Dubbed as "a high performance art partnership" by Artnews, their eclectic, savvy designs have challenged the system as well as encouraged cultural debates.

'Aotearoa' means New Zealand in Maori. I bought this piece for my living room – it uses iconic New Zealand symbols to create the word.

'Supercity Logo' is a controversial piece created by the creative duo to subvert the Auckland Supercity Logo design competition in resistance of the "official" competition. To keep it short, the 'Supercity' posters were pasted all over Auckland as part of their guerilla campaign – you get the picture. It got me thinking if you'll ever get arrested in Singapore for the same campaign – probably.

From 'The Four Seasons' series, 'Summer' is my pick because it just makes me want to eat fish & chips – as simple as that.

A satirical take on the Tui Beer ad campaign, 'Yeah Right' first appeared in the Dr Tutu featuring Tame Iti exhibition and it is a social commentary on the "arrest of Tame Iti and other Tuhoe members under the terrorism suppression act". Clever? Yeah Right.

Wai Xiao Wen 10.03.2011 I'm not sure if they 'had' before but it is definitely worth proposing to ACM! Although I rather see modern art rather than conventional ones, haha.
Ng Yi-Sheng 07.03.2011 I've thought for a while that the Asian Civilisations Museum should feature New Zealand and Australian art - certainly, they've had as much impact on our region as any Asian nations.
