Liu Kang, Life by the River

Come 29 July, The National Art Gallery, Singapore will be holding an exhibition on Liu Kang to commemorate his centennial year of birth (1911 to 2011). Liu Kang is one of Singapore’s most important artists and a guiding figure in the development of Singapore’s art scene.

Known for his Balinese-themed figurative paintings, Liu Kang skillfully fused elements of art and tradition from different continents in his work. This exhibition will showcase close to 100 artworks by this dynamic artist, educator and art critic. In recognition of his lifetime accomplishments and contributions to Singapore’s visual art community, Liu Kang was conferred the Public Service Star in 1970, and the Meritorious Service Medal in 1996.

The exhibition will be held from 29 July to 16 October 2011 at the Singapore Art Museum, 71 Bras Basah Road Singapore 189555. Admission charges apply.
