Launched at the start of 2011, The Canvas aims to make art and especially modern art accessible to the layperson. Art, to many people, may come across as difficult to comprehend, and sometimes, absolutely baffling. Hence, The Canvas was born to foster a greater understanding and appreciation for art.

To quote, Edgar Degas (1834 – 1917), a French artist and one of the founders of the Impressionism movement in the 19th Century, who once said:

Art is not what you see, but what you make others see.

And this is exactly what The Canvas strives to do – to make you see and unravel this great mystery, called Art.

The Canvas is supported by The National Art Gallery, Singapore (working title), a new visual arts institution that will manage the world’s largest public collection of modern Southeast Asian and Singapore art. The Gallery is slated to be opened officially in 2015.
